Which QR code type should you use?
The visible QR pattern may look similar, but the information stored inside it can be structured for different actions. Choosing the right type helps the phone respond more naturally after scanning.
Website QR
Best for opening a landing page, product page, online menu, portfolio, form or any normal HTTPS link. This is the most flexible choice when the information already exists on the web.
Text QR
Stores plain text directly in the QR. It is useful for short instructions, reference numbers and messages that do not require internet access after scanning.
WiFi QR
Stores the WiFi network name, security type and password in a recognized format. It is useful in offices, homes, guest areas and service counters where visitors need network access without manually typing a long password.
UPI QR
Encodes a UPI payment request containing information such as UPI ID, payee name and an optional amount. Before using a payment QR publicly, scan it yourself and verify that the payment app displays the expected recipient.
vCard QR
Packages contact details such as name, phone, email, company and website using the vCard format. It is a strong choice for business cards and event networking because compatible phones can recognize the contact information.
WhatsApp QR
Creates a link to a WhatsApp conversation with a phone number and optional pre-filled message. Include the country code and test the link on a phone before printing it.
Email QR
Uses a mailto link that can pre-fill the recipient, subject and message. It is useful for enquiries, feedback or service requests where you want the scanner to start an email quickly.
Code128 barcode
Code128 is a one-dimensional barcode rather than a QR code. It is suitable for many internal identifiers, labels and inventory-style uses. A barcode scanner reads the encoded text; it does not provide the same rich action formats as a QR code.
