How to Create a UPI QR Code for Payments
A UPI QR code allows a customer to begin a payment by scanning instead of manually typing a UPI ID. It is useful for shops, service providers, freelancers and individuals who accept UPI payments in India. The payer still reviews and authorizes the transaction in their UPI app.
Details you need
Keep your correct UPI ID ready. It usually looks like name@bank or number@provider. You may also add the payee name, amount and transaction note when supported. Leaving the amount empty allows the customer to enter it while paying.
Steps to make a UPI QR code
Open AeroQR and choose the UPI option. Enter the UPI ID exactly as registered, add a recognizable payee name and include a fixed amount only when it applies to every payment. Generate the code and scan it using a supported UPI app.
- Confirm that the correct recipient name appears.
- For variable bills, leave the amount open.
- Complete a small test payment before public use.
- Download a clear file and test the final print.
Fixed amount or open amount?
A fixed-amount code suits a product, ticket or standard fee. An open-amount code is flexible for retail counters and variable bills. Even when an amount is included, the customer must check all payment details shown by their app.
Payment safety checks
Complete a small test transaction and verify that it reaches the intended bank account. Never judge success only by a customer screenshot or payment sound; check your own bank or payment app. Inspect printed codes regularly because a fraudster may place another sticker over the original.
Keep the payee name visible near the code. A genuine payment QR requests payment to the merchant; scanning a code or entering a PIN is not normally required to receive money from another person.
Printing tips
Use a clear, high-contrast image with white space around the pattern. Do not place a large logo over it. Test the print under the lighting used in your shop and from a normal customer distance.
Frequently asked questions
Is a UPI QR code linked to my bank account?
It encodes a UPI payment address. The UPI service and bank handle the actual transaction after authorization.
Can one code accept different amounts?
Yes. Create it without a fixed amount so each customer can enter the amount due.
Does generating the code verify my UPI ID?
No. Scan it and confirm the displayed recipient before public use.
Should I share my UPI PIN?
Never. A UPI PIN is not required to create or display a payment QR code.
