How to Make a VCard QR Code for a Business Card
A vCard QR puts contact information directly into a scannable format. Instead of asking someone to type your phone number, email and company name, the phone can recognize the information as a contact.
1. Decide which contact fields matter
For most business cards, a name, company, role, phone number, email and website are enough. Add only the information you actually want every scanner to receive. A QR code printed on a public card should be treated as public information.
Long postal addresses, multiple phone numbers and large notes make the encoded data larger. The QR pattern can become denser, so keep the contact record concise when the code must fit into a small printed area.
2. Use a professional contact name
The contact name should be recognizable after it is saved. Include the company in the organization field rather than squeezing everything into the name field. If your business uses a shared sales number, make that clear in the contact label.
3. Test how different phones interpret it
Scan the QR on Android and iPhone when possible. The exact save-contact screen can differ between devices, but the essential fields should appear correctly. Check that phone numbers are not truncated and email addresses contain no accidental spaces.
4. Place it on the card without crowding the design
A vCard QR works best when it has a clear quiet zone and is not pushed against the trim edge. On a standard business card, reserve a clean block for the QR rather than placing it on top of a textured photograph.
Print a proof at actual card size before producing a large batch. A QR that scans on a large monitor may be too small after the artwork is reduced to final print size.
5. Know when a website QR is better
If your contact details change frequently, a website or profile-page QR can be easier to maintain because you can update the page without reprinting the QR, provided the URL stays the same. A vCard QR is best when you want the contact fields stored directly inside the code.
Quick checklist
- Only public contact details included.
- Phone and email verified.
- QR scans into a contact screen.
- Proof printed at final business-card size.
- Enough blank margin around the QR.
